Frequently Asked Questions

Out of State Cases

Q. Why can’t Merced County enforce my child support order?

A: When an absent parent is located in another state, under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA), we attempt to enforce using our enforcement tools, when all methods have been exhausted we then request the assistance from the other state. Federal Law (UIFSA) gives provisions for the other state to enforce the order as if it was theirs.
